Smiles, laughter, music, and creativity were on full display as BHN celebrated the opening of the 2026 Kamp for Kids season at Camp Togowauk in Westfield.

Families, staff, elected officials, funders, and community supporters gathered for the annual Welcome Day celebration, highlighting the impact Kamp for Kids continues to have on children and young adults of all abilities across Western Massachusetts.

With the support and encouragement of counselors and staff, Kampers shared their talents through skits, songs, jokes, and artwork, giving guests a glimpse into the confidence, creativity, and sense of belonging that make Kamp such a special place.

We were honored to welcome Massachusetts State Senator John Velis, State Representative Kelly Pease, and Eliana Clinton from the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services, who joined us in celebrating the beginning of another incredible summer at Kamp for Kids. Guests also heard remarks from BHN President and CEO Steve Winn, Kamp Director Luis (Sito) Burgos, and Anne Benoit, developmental services program director. Their presence and words underscored the community's shared commitment to inclusion and the belief that every child deserves a summer filled with friendship, exploration, and joy.

"Kamp for Kids is a place where every child can learn, grow, and be themselves in an environment where differences are celebrated and friendships flourish," said Anne Benoit, Developmental Services Program Director. "Kampers are able to make memories and new friends while enjoying experiences in a safe, welcoming environment designed to meet their needs and abilities."

Founded by Judy Hoyt and inspired by her son, Rick Hoyt, Kamp for Kids continues a legacy rooted in inclusion, perseverance, and community. Each summer, the program welcomes approximately 150 Kampers across three sessions, offering opportunities to explore expressive arts, nature, health and wellness activities, non-competitive sports, and more.

A heartfelt thank you to our families, staff, volunteers, donors, and dedicated camp counselors whose support helps make these experiences possible. Your enthusiasm, compassion, and commitment help create a place where every Kamper can learn, grow, belong, and thrive. Here's to another incredible summer at Kamp for Kids!
