Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)

The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is a partnership between BHN and local law enforcement. The team’s priorities include: 

  • Training for law enforcement officers on how to recognize and respond to individuals in crisis
  • Dispatch training on identifying the signs of behavioral health crises
  • Developing community-based responses to individuals struggling with mental health issues
  • Decreasing the incidence of avoidable arrests by creating viable diversion alternatives
  • Reducing medically unnecessary emergency room visits
  • Reducing repeat calls to 911 with diversion to appropriate behavioral health resources
  • Creating partnerships between law enforcement and community-based providers
