Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)
Description
The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is a partnership between BHN and local law enforcement. The team’s priorities include:
- Training for law enforcement officers on how to recognize and respond to individuals in crisis
- Dispatch training on identifying the signs of behavioral health crises
- Developing community-based responses to individuals struggling with mental health issues
- Decreasing the incidence of avoidable arrests by creating viable diversion alternatives
- Reducing medically unnecessary emergency room visits
- Reducing repeat calls to 911 with diversion to appropriate behavioral health resources
- Creating partnerships between law enforcement and community-based providers
