Recovery is Changing: Updates to Care at Carlson Recovery Center

May 1, 2026
Two people sit facing each other on a bench outdoors, one with bright pink hair, in a muted park setting.

Many people believe that they—or a loved one—must go to ‘detox’ before starting recovery. In reality, the majority of people starting their recovery journey don’t need a traditional inpatient detox facility to begin treatment safely.

Thanks to advances in addiction medicine, many people can now safely and comfortably withdraw from substances with our support and monitoring in settings other than a traditional detox facility, based on their unique needs.

That often raises important questions:

  • How do I know what level of care is right?
  • Where do I go first?
  • What happens next?

We are committed to ensuring access to the full spectrum of recovery treatment and continuing to meet the needs of our communities.

Why These Changes Matter

The updates at Carlson reflect the evolving landscape of substance use disorder treatment. As Carlson transitions toward a Clinical Stabilization Program, care for withdrawal may look different than in the past—but the commitment remains the same.

We are committed to ensuring access to the full spectrum of recovery treatment and continuing to meet the needs of our communities.
